1 Briefing Session on the Inquiry (in private)
1.1 The new inquiry into Employment Opportunities for People Over 50 was introduced to Members.
2 Introductions, apologies and substitutions
2.1 Apologies were received from Gwenda Thomas, Dafydd Elis-Thomas and Byron Davies. Suzy Davies substituted for Byron Davies for part of the meeting.
3 Office of the Older People's Commissioner
3.1 The Committee took evidence from Iwan Williams and Daisy Cole.
3.2 The Office of the Older People’s Commissioner agreed to send suggestions with regards to how a scheme similar to the current Jobs Growth Wales programme for people over 50 could be structured and funded.
4 Jobcentre Plus
4.1 The Committee took evidence from Huw Thomas.
4.2 Jobcentre Plus agreed to provide the following information:
· further information and any statistics on the guaranteed interview scheme.
· statistics on the on-flows and off-flows to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) for people over 50.
· any available information on the number of DWP/JCP sanctions to people over 50.
· a copy of the resources pack used by their work coaches.
· look into the position of a small business owner who may choose to close their own, failing, business in respect of the benefits system.
5 Age Alliance and Age Cymru
5.1 The Committee took evidence from Graeme Francis, David Pugh and Hayley Ridge-Evans.
5.2 Prime Cymru agreed to provide suggestions with regards to how a scheme similar to the current Jobs Growth Wales programme for people over 50 could be structured and funded.
